FITNESS AMERICA WEEKEND 2017 Prep Instructions

BEFORE YOU START TANNING / FAQ

What should I use to prep my skin? An exfoliating towel and gold Dial soap.  If you use a scrub…keep in mind that it most likely has oil in it which will create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution – creating an uneven complexion.

When do I get my mani/pedi? No less than 24 hours before your first tanning session.

How long before my first session should I wax (if I want to)? This is not recommended, however, if you must, get it done at least 48 hours prior to your first session.  Shaving is best as waxing can leave a residue that creates a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution.

Should I shave my entire body? It is recommended as the bronzers can clump hair together creating an uneven complexion.

Do you tan my face?  What do I do about makeup? We tan your face with a much more ‘skin friendly’ solution.  It will blend much nicer (you need to wipe your face with a damp cloth before makeup application – men, do not wipe your face off with a damp cloth…leave the bronzer on unless you are applying makeup).  If we are tanning your face, be sure that you leave the bronzer on for at least 2 hours for it to take effect – otherwise, we will not need to color your face.

What do I wear to my tanning session? Dark, loose fitted clothing – cotton or polyester is best.  Zip ups, long pants and sleeves are preferred.  No dresses, shorts, jeans or tank tops.  DO NOT SLEEP NAKED!  Your arms and legs must be covered and separated – robes are okay but not recommended.  Skin-on-skin contact can create imperfections that are not always fixable.

Where/when do we get our oil/bikini bite done? No more than 30 minutes prior to your stage appearance.  We will be backstage to help you with this – from the entrance, to the left, down the long hallway toward the stage, around the corner to the right.  They also have us up the elevator sometimes as well.

Does the tan cover tattoos? No, the tan is not opaque. You’re welcome to use your own method, however, we suggest doing nothing. Spray tanning can make things less noticeable but it does not “cover things up.”

Although extremely rare, Aglow is not responsible for any kind of allergic reaction. By signing in, you assume all risk. If reaction occurs, please consult a physician.

Men may wear posing suit (or some kind of under garment…a sock works too) to their tanning session unless they are paired with a male spray tech.  We also have men’s thongs available.

Women may (and should) tan nude with a female spray tech to avoid tan lines.

▪ DO NOT put your suit on until after you have been sprayed the last time before your stage appearance.  Wait as long as possible to put your suit on after your last tanning session!

Women – when using the bathroom, line the seat with bath tissue and sit…do not hover unless you’ve got it down pat.  You can also bring Dixi cups, poke many holes or cut out the bottom…you know what to do!  This will prevent lines from being created down your inner thighs.

▪ Can I get touchups if I have water spots? Yes – please go to the tanning location and sign in.  No notification is needed.

▪ How much should I tip my Spray Tech? Typically 10-20%.

APPOINTMENT #1 – first competition tan (same prep for Media Tans if you are getting one)

Shower before your appointment shaving FIRST!  You may use a light shaving cream but be sure to exfoliate AFTER shaving.  Any residue left behind by the cream may act as a barrier between your skin and the DHA (element that reacts with your skin to color it).  We recommend an exfoliating towel by Earth Therapeutics from Bed, Bath & Beyond ($6) and simple gold Dial soap.

Come to your appointment with CLEAN SKIN.  This means NO lotion, makeup, perfumes, deodorant, etc.

After your session, be very careful around liquids.  Any contact with water will dissolve the tan.

You may be sleeping in your tan so it is best to sleep in the same clothes you put on after your tanning session.  Be somewhat conscious of where/how you position yourself.  For example, you don’t want your palms to be tanned or handprints on your body so try to keep your hands away from your body.  Try not to make skin to skin contact with any limbs to avoid uneven markings – try to keep in mind that holding your arms in a bent position may create slight unevenness on the inner elbow.  (Don’t think about this as a science, these are simply tidbits of information – we’re perfectionists!)

Your face may be tanned during this session.

APPOINTMENT #2 – last tan before your stage appearance – keep in mind that due to the schedule, some of you may receive specific instruction from our team – please pay close attention and be sure you understand exactly what your Tech is instructing.

DO NOT SHOWER between your 1st & 2nd appointments!  You may shower AFTER your prelims are finished unless instructed otherwise.

*APPOINTMENT #3 – last tan before your stage appearance if you competed on Friday and are also competing on Saturday

Shower but don’t exfoliate again.  You can shower right after your prelims are finished.

Come to your appointment with clean skin.

Be careful around liquids.
